Pain Management Service

Luckily, the fact that animals can feel and suffer from pain is becoing increasingly recognised. Adequate pain management is important for all animals, be it acute pain during and after surgery or chronic pain impacting on the quality of life of a companion animal.

We offer consultations by email, phone or in person to adequately manage acute and chronic pain in all animals. We can be involved in the recognition, asessment as well as treatment options tailored to the individual animal based on up-to-date scientific knowledge.

Besides the consultation service we can deliver sporadic or more regular clinics for your patients with chronic pain problems. We can continuously come and see/ treat animals in your practice, see them initially and then keep consulting over the phone or email. We believe that a team approach is of utmost importance in the treatment of pain and to improve quality of life in each individual animal. We are used to providing insight and help as part of a team with other professionals to improve the quality of life of the pets visiting your practice. Additionally, we offer acupuncture as complementary therapy and part of the pain management where appropriate.

The following cases are some examples of animals we deal with frequently: Procedures resulting in a moderate to severe amount of pain, pain from musculoskelteal disease no longer responsive to treatment with nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, pain and quality of life of cancer patients, neuropathic/ neurogenic pain states, pain unresponsive to conventional treatment.

Treatment options often include a variety of modalities – pharmacological, physical, neutraceutical, environmental and other complementary therapies (like acupuncture).

VAS’ pain management service will be an valuable addition to the primary care team of the patient.
